  1. We too were suckered by Phone Pages using the same exact same ploy so I expect we will see the same process. Beware as this is a particularly shady group. They tell you it is a renewal, but don’t tell you that the “renewal” is of a free year you never did request. This is not on the follow up call. I would say let the collection agency sue, and contact a lawyer about a class action. If you do I bet many of us would toss in for it. I may actually make a call to a local lawyer who was involved in the Residential School settlement and numerous others. They will eat this up and close down Phone Pages for good, I hope.

I’m in the loop now with the “General Yellow Pages” and EMMGI. It is the exact same scenario as described below, So I’m curious as to how you are continuing “or not” to resolve the situations you described here. Is there some sort of class action activity?
I’ve alerted our company Council and filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission. Any feedback or recommendations would be appreciated!

I am having the same issue with a company called NBG, National Business Guide. I have filed complaints with the BBB of Florida, Federal Trade Commission, Attorney General of both Florida and New Hampshire. I continue to receive calls from the “collection agency” and I too wonder if I am jeopardizing my company regarding a potnetial small claims court filing.

  3. Received a call over 9 months ago from Phonepages.ca. They advised that they wished to renew our subscription with them, I told them I wanted to cancel any subscription we might have them. They then advised that we would be invoiced some $400.00 or so for last year’s subscription, in order to be cancelled and removed from their list. I then received a followup call from their shipping department to verify our address, company name, and that they would be sending an invoice to my attention. They taped the followup call so stupidly for me, they have my voice verifying company information and agreement to send the invoice to my attention.

When I received the invoice I advised them we would not be paying, I’d received at least half dozen of these same types of calls. We receive no benefit from being on their internet listing, we get no phone inquiries as a result of being on their listing. Regardless of what they have on tape, my original intention was to cancel any subscription we might have and to be removed from any phone listing.

I have just received a phone call from a collection agency acting on behalf of phonepages.ca. He has advised they would settle for $300.00. If I don’t settle they are prepared to go to small claims court and submit the tape as evidence.

I really don’t want to pay, but wonder what chance they have of winning a court decision.

Any information or feedback you might have would be helpful.

    • With regards to the collections agent. Legit or not, taking someone to court, small claims or otherwise, over $300 and then try to collect on the judgement, wouldn’t be worth it to them from a business perspective.

Also I have never heard of a collection agent “settling” for less. They go after the most they can, because that’s how their agents get paid.

I’d tell them to pound salt.
